OPT Approval Process

Please read the text below carefully and make sure you provide ALL the requested information to your academic advisor when writing for OPT approval.
Without all the information below, we are unable to give OPT approval.
International students who are applying for OPT, please follow this process:

1. Send the following information to your academic advisor:

  • Your unofficial transcript
  • An answer to the question: are you working as a GA/RA/TA/hourly employee with any unit on campus? If you are employed on campus, you need to supply one more piece of information:
    • the last date of assistantship contract
2. Apply at the ISSS portal. You do not need to wait for approval from us after completing the first step to apply using the portal. The academic advisor will indicate their approval of OPT via the online ISSS portal.
