The Georgetown Database of Cancer (GDOC) is a cutting-edge, data integration platform that allows researchers to access and analyze clinical and research data across multiple trials and studies. The framework can be used to import data from multiple studies, to access biomedical research data, to perform analysis, and generate ad hoc queries and customized reports.  G-DOC is freely available to the scientific community and proven to be a valuable research tool. The framework provides a mechanism for integrating and aggregating biomedical research data and provides access to a variety of data types (e.g. tissue annotations, gene expression, clinical trials data, health service related population data, next generation sequencing etc.) in an integrated fashion.The purpose of G-DOC is to facilitate systems medicine by providing easy identification of trends and patterns in these integrated datasets that ultimately result in better targeted and personalized therapies for cancer and other diseases.

heartbeat-logoThe National Sleep Research Resource (NSRR) offers free web access to large collections of de-identified physiological signals and clinical data elements collected in well-characterized research cohorts and clinical trials. The initial data resource is from the Sleep Heart Health Study. Over time, many more studies will be added. Using the tools provided, the researcher can search across thousands of data elements, identify those data of most relevance for given needs, explore the statistical distributions of each, and download the data as CSV files. Data include demographic, physiological, clinical, and other data types collected by each study. Physiologic signals from overnight polysomnograms (sleep studies) are available by downloading European Data Format (EDF) files. The researcher can load summary measures of standardly scored sleep data. Specific scored annotations can be accessed by downloading XML files and can be viewed offline using the EDF Viewer.  Additional signal processing and data exploration tools are available on the PhysioNet website,http://physionet.org/. Since 1999, PhysioNet has provided free web access to large and diverse collections of recorded physiologic signals (PhysioBank) and related open-source software (PhysioToolkit). PhysioBank currently includes over 200 annotated polysomnograms in 4 collections, and more than 60 other databases, including the MIMIC and MIMIC II Waveform and Clinical Databases collected from over 30,000 ICU patients, and a wide range of specialized data sets from clinical and research studies. PhysioToolkit software is compatible with the NSRR’s EDF PSGs and many other data formats, and runs on all popular platforms; it includes software for viewing, analyzing, and simulating physiologic time series and signals.  The NSRR encourages interested researchers, educators, and trainees to join its user community as members. Members can contribute their own data and tools for sharing, provide information and feedback on ways to improve sleep and physiological signal data exchange and analysis, and offer ideas on how to make NSRR and other resources work best for the scientific community.

MIMIC II (Multiparameter Intelligent Monitoring in Intensive Care)

physionet-logoThe MIMIC II (Multiparameter Intelligent Monitoring in Intensive Care) Databases contain physiologic signals and vital signs time series captured from patient monitors, and comprehensive clinical data obtained from hospital medical information systems, for tens of thousands of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients*. Data were collected between 2001 and 2008 from a variety of ICUs (medical, surgical, coronary care, and neonatal) in a single tertiary teaching hospital. The MIMIC II Clinical Database contains clinical data from bedside workstations as well as hospital archives. The MIMIC II Waveform Database includes records of continuous high-resolution physiologic waveforms and minute-by-minute numeric time series (trends) of physiologic measurements. Many, but not all, of the Waveform Database records are matched to corresponding Clinical Database records (for more information, see Record Matching). The databases are thoroughly de-identified (all PHI has been removed and all dates have been changed).

As part of the Obama Administration’s efforts to make our healthcare system more transparent, affordable, and accountable, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has prepared a public data set, the Medicare Provider Utilization and Payment Data: Physician and Other Supplier Public Use File (Physician and Other Supplier PUF), with information on services and procedures provided to Medicare beneficiaries by physicians and other healthcare professionals.  The Physician and Other Supplier PUF contains information on utilization, payment (allowed amount and Medicare payment), and submitted charges organized by National Provider Identifier (NPI), Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) code, and place of service. This PUF is based on information from CMS’s National Claims History Standard Analytic Files. The data in the Physician and Other Supplier PUF covers calendar year 2012 and contains 100% final-action physician/supplier Part B non-institutional line items for the Medicare fee-for-service population.
