Master of Professional Studies in Software Engineering

About the Program:

In partnership with UMBC’s Division of Professional Studies, we are proud to offer a Master of Professional Studies (MPS) in Software Engineering. This program is designed to fit a busy schedule for working professionals interested in learning from industry professionals. Additionally, students will gain exposure to coursework in leadership, communications, management, and ethics.

What is a Master’s of Professional Studies?

Master’s of Professional Studies focuses on practical skills designed for current and future professionals. MPS degrees provide students with in-demand skills employers are looking for and help students gain industry specific skills. With a hands-on approach, MPS degrees allow students to practice these learned skills through a customized education combining electives and tracks to create a specialized program. These programs may also be completed with a capstone project that highlights applied research and expertise.

Our MPS programs also offer evening courses to help students continue their career growth, allowing for a flexible learning experience. Courses are taught by current practitioners and no formal thesis is required. The emphasis is on applying knowledge versus developing new knowledge, providing the tools needed for students to move up in their career sector.

  • Required Core Courses: 18 credits
  • Elective Courses: 12 credits
